River bottoms offer a last glimpse of what many outdoorsmen think America looks like at its best. They are a mixture of mature bottomland hardwoods and lush, flat pastures that spring from the deep, rich alluvial soils. Water defines bottomlands -- sloughs, pools, ponds and oxbows capture and hold water to create diverse habitats full of vibrant wildlife. In addition, river bottoms provide some of the last unspoiled, unbroken migration routes for wildlife. Consequently, wildlife flows through these low-lying areas just as easily as the river water itself.
Buck River Ranch has all of these features:
• Large, mature bottomland hardwoods complete with wetlands; • Deep, lush pastures and food plots; • Ponds, oxbows, creeks and a river; • Abundant wildlife moving through and living within its boundaries; and • A managed whitetail herd that includes resident trophy bucks, as well as those that flow through. In addition, Buck River Ranch offers almost 100 ft. of elevation changes from the peak in the northwest corner of the property to the lowest part of the river bottom in the southeast corner of the property. Best of all, you’ll really have a hard time believing that you are less than five minutes from a golf course, shops and a small airport. Terrain
Buck River Ranch has two hills separated by flat bottomlands, a creek and bordered to the east by Muddy Boggy River. The elevated portions of the property are largely timbered with the bottoms being a mixture of pastures, bottomland hardwoods and wetlands. A cleared pipeline and long pastures create portals into the larger masses of hardwoods. Transitional areas of rolling hills mark the end of the bottoms and give nice views into the open woods below. So much of the property seems untouched that you will convince yourself that you are one of the few people to enjoy it. Just about that time, you will likely discover an old tombstone from the 1890’s standing on a pleasant little rise above the river. If you pause long enough, you will notice that many of the rocks around you are actually arranged in rows, and that there are other small tombstones. At that point, you will recognize this place as a historic cemetery and maybe even stop to ponder what life was like there before statehood.
Wildlife and Water
Buck River Ranch has water of all kinds: rivers, creeks, sloughs, oxbows, and ponds. Each has its own allure. The muddy river waters are patiently stalked by the large catfish that flourish there. The creek is somewhat clearer and has numerous species of game fish such as bass and perch. The largest pond has been managed for bass and offers good numbers of four and five-pound largemouths. The wetlands and oxbows along the river offer great duck hunting in the timber. The sloughs are routinely torn up by large wild hogs that roam the river bottom. The amount of water available supports large stands of bottomland hardwood species that the wildlife prefers. Stately oaks grow tall and straight in the bottom and provide huge mast crops for the wood ducks, deer and hogs. Wild turkeys roost throughout the bottom in the safety of the high tree branches.
Improvements
The property has a 2,247+/- square foot, 2007 model doublewide mobile home resting on a solid concrete foundation. It has 4 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, living room, dining room, kitchen, utility room and game room. In addition, it has 1,200+/- square feet of covered, concrete patios. A nearby 30’ x 40’ ft. barn with 22’ x 40’ ft. lean-to stands ready to protect your equipment, vehicles or stored goods
