Long Mountain Ranch
Atoka County ~ OK
4,708 +/- Acres $6,567,660
Long Mountain Ranch is an extremely versatile 4,708+/- acre property with dramatic elevation changes, managed pine and hardwood forests, and abundant hunting and fishing opportunities.
Terrain
Long Mountain is an incredibly beautiful ranch with 320+/- feet of gradual-to-extreme elevation changes ranging from level hay bottoms to mild hills covered with native grasses to significant rock-studded mountainsides. The hillsides are covered with native pine and hardwoods that have been under a forestry management plan for the past 15 years. This plan has focused on managing the forest while maintaining historic wildlife travel corridors and bedding areas. Food plots have been strategically placed to flow with the natural travel patterns of the deer and turkeys. This ranch is just on the cusp of the western edge of southeastern Oklahoma’s Pine Forest Region.
Wildlife and Water
Whitetail deer and the eastern species of turkey are the primary sporting game on the property, but wild pigs also offer a year-round opportunity to experience the outdoors. Numerous trophy-class deer have been harvested as well as captured by game cameras all over the ranch. Just across the north fence of the ranch is the Natural Scenic Recreation Area which is owned by the Federal Bureau of Reclamation and managed by the Division of State Parks. This is an important fact because this is 8,900+/- acres of land that does not allow hunting or trapping. This area also prohibits motorized vehicle traffic. Where else can you find such a large neighbor that does not allow hunting and provides excellent habitat to give those bucks a chance to reach their potential and grow to maturity? There are abundant fishing opportunities on the larger lakes and the numerous ponds scattered through out the property. Sport fish have been stocked in select lakes with hybrid introduction of largemouth bass and bluegill within the last 4 years.
Not only does this property have superb habitat for growing quality deer but it has been exclusively managed for trophy class animals for well over a decade. This ranch has been enrolled in the DMAP program through the Oklahoma Department of Wildlife Conservation for over ten years. This program evaluates the herd every year and allows for managed doe harvest to optimize deer quality.
Improvements
A house, which was built in the early 1900s and then renovated from the inside out in 2000, overlooks the 22+/- acre lake which is covered with lush Bermuda on the north side and native pine stands on the opposing side. Guests and family have ample room to relax with 3 bedrooms, 3 bathrooms, and an especially inviting screened-in porch (which is a personal favorite of the seller). The upstairs has a quaint sitting area which is perfect for relaxing and sharing stories with old friends. Long Mountain Ranch got its name because a stretch of Long Mountain traverses the eastern edge of the property. Ranch roads are abundant and cross all over the property making the scenery and use of the ranch more enjoyable. One of the most spectacular drives is through Jacobs Hollow on the northeast end. From this elevated road on the side of a mountain, spring water can be seen flowing over and around native rocks that are, no doubt, thousands of years old. In early spring when the Dogwoods and Redbuds are in bloom, this creek-bottom scene is nothing short of stunning.
Summary
Long Mountain Ranch is located in proven quality deer and turkey areas, as well as next to McGee Creek Lake which is one of the best trophy bass fishing lakes in Oklahoma, if not the entire southern United States. The east boundary of the ranch is in Pushmataha County which produced two new state-record typical deer in the ’07 season. Let’s not forget to mention, again, the 8,900+/- acres to the north that does not allow hunting. Not only is this a truly unique place to own and hunt, but also the entire family will enjoy and appreciate the peace and tranquility of the Colorado Rocky Mountain feel. Put your mind at ease and enjoy life with friends and family listening to the whispering pines and watching the bald eagles soar on this amazing property. All off of a paved road roughly 2.5 hours from downtown Dallas and 3 hours from downtown Oklahoma City.
