Terrain

The diverse terrain on Opperman Ranch ranges from flatland bottoms of mesquite pasture, to cultivated fields and CRP, to higher mesquite mesas interspersed with a few hand-planted live oaks at the upper elevations. The mesas have cleared areas ready for establishing food plots, and deep draws with seasonal creeks course through the upper plateau. With elevation changes of nearly 150 feet, the terrain also offers challenging thrills for the ATV enthusiast. The higher elevations include excellent views of the surrounding countryside, and the CRP fields provide an excellent site to exercise or train bird dogs.

Wildlife

This property has been managed for wildlife since 1998, resulting in an immensely diverse wildlife population which includes: magnificent whitetails, turkey, dove, quail, axis deer and a small herd of scimitar-horned oryx. Opperman Ranch has been a member of the Texas Deer Association as a scientific breeder. Through this breeding program, they have established great genetics within the whitetail population. High protein free-choice feed has been fed year round from feeders throughout the ranch to supplement the nutrition of the herd. This property is also home to the Rio Grand Turkey, which will challenge your wits and calling abilities in the early Spring. Dove hunting over the sunflower fields has produced quick limits for the skilled shotgunner and plenty of spent hulls and frustration for others. Opperman Ranch has an attractive ranch-style home complete with rockwork, tin roof, fireplace, garage, a fenced yard and an underground sprinkler system. The separate lodge facility has a fully functional kitchen, open dining and entertainment area, bathroom and office. At the back of the lodge, there is a drive-in game cleaning facility featuring an electric hoist, sinks and a walk-in cooler. A concrete walkway from the lodge leads to a total of four guest cabins -- two to each side. Each cabin has one bedroom with a full bathroom and vanity. Between the cabins lies an outdoor pavilion flanked by a rocked outdoor grill and a large rock-rimmed fire pit. Other improvements include: deer pens, a wildlife barn, and two metal barns for equipment storage.
