Umbrella Rock Ranch
Pushmataha County ~ OK
920 +/- Acres $1,150,000
Umbrella Rock Ranch is 920+/- acres sitting atop Flagpole Mountain, adjacent to Clayton, OK. This ranch is for brave souls who have the nerve to experience an untamed mountaintop that comes complete with unique rock features, waterfalls and black bears.
Terrain
One of the most unique features of the ranch is Umbrella Rock, an approximately 20-foot tall balanced rock that sits near the highpoint of the ranch. From this point, the surface of the ranch drops 260 feet into the waterfall-filled canyon on the southern face of Flagpole Mountain. This transition starts at the relatively flat mountain spine and moves through the sloped flank of the mountain before abruptly falling downward into the canyon. Along this course, a mixed range of pine and oak growth crowns the mountain and provides the canopy needed to create habitat for mountain ferns, moss, browse and light grasses. Large boulders are found in clusters throughout the property, and vertical cliffs rim the edges of more extreme drop-offs.
Wildlife and Water
This is a wilderness property, and with it comes the animals that normally require large expanses to roam. Black bears migrate through the property in their search for food, habitat and mates. In addition, the rugged mountain terrain provides a place where animals have time to grow to maturity. It is a place where stealthy whitetail bucks offer you only a glimpse before vanishing back into the depths of the forest. Bobcats, lynx, coyotes and foxes hunt small game here. This is a place where you will not be at the top of the food chain -- rather, you will be somewhere toward the middle.
Pure mountain spring water flows down the slopes to collect in a dramatic canyon filled with stair stepping waterfalls before collecting in a calm pool just past the last waterfall. Strange geologic formations can be seen in the rock walls of the canyon in addition to large cave-like voids.
Improvements
Other than a couple of mountain trails, there are absolutely no improvements on Umbrella Rock Ranch -- it is completely natural. Where other properties might offer city water and power, this property offers something a little different. Here, running water is pure mountain spring water, and its electricity is the excitement you feel when you hear the waterfalls in the canyon.
Summary
There are fewer and fewer unspoiled, wild places in our world. Fortunately, southeastern Oklahoma still has a few of them. Umbrella Rock Ranch offers the complete package of natural beauty and abundant wildlife at an affordable price. Everything on the mountain is beautiful, tough and a little bit dangerous. The real question you should ask yourself is, “Am I tough enough for this place?”
